DO YOU BELIEVE WHO THE LORD SAYS YOU ARE?

This week as I was driving I was listening to a song with the title ‘You are I AM’. As I stopped at the traffic lights I noticed the car ahead of me in the lane beside me had the number plate ‘I AM’ followed by numbers. I knew the Lord had something to tell me. It made me reflect on who the Lord is to me and how wonderful it is to be always learning more about Him as each day passes. I felt the Lord wanted to highlight the scriptures that spoke of who He is. Scriptures where Jesus used the phrase ‘I AM’ are listed below and they state who He is and what His relationship is to us –

  • John 8:58 – “I give you this eternal truth: I have existed long before Abraham was born, for I Am!”

  • John 6:35 – “I am the bread of life. Come every day to me and you will never be hungry. Believe in me and you will never be thirsty.”

  • John 8:12 – “I am light to the world and those that embrace me will experience life giving light and they will never walk in darkness.”

  • John 10:7,9 – “I speak to you eternal truth: I am the Gate for the flock. I am the Gateway. To enter through me is to experience life, freedom, and satisfaction.”

  • John 10:11,14 – “I am the Good Shepherd who lays down my life as a sacrifice for the sheep. I alone am the Good Shepherd, and I know those whose hearts are mine, for they recognize me and know me.”

  • John 11:25 – “I am the Resurrection, and I am Life Eternal. Anyone who clings to me in faith, even though he dies, will live forever.”

  • John 14:6 – “I am the Way, I am the Truth, and I am the Life. No one comes next to the Father except through union with me. To know me is to know my Father too.”

  • John 15:5 – I am the sprouting vine and you’re my branches. As you live in union with me as your source, fruitfulness will stream from within you – but when you live separated from me you are powerless.” (The Passion Translation)

The next day when I asked the Lord what message He had for His people He said, “Do you know who I am and do you believe who I say you are?” I felt there was so much importance on this question as it was about our knowledge of the Lord and our identity in Him. I felt the heart of God in the question He asked. He was asking if people had a heart knowledge and experience of who He was and who they were. I knew it was the Lord’s desire for people to see themselves as He saw them. I also had a vision of the most beautiful gemstones and they were sitting in the hand of Jesus. There were multitudes of them but each one was unique and each one was so beautiful. The Lord told me the gemstones represented His people – each one was beautiful and uniquely made and each one was a reflection of His beauty as we are made in His image. Each person is a treasure and ‘gemstone’ to Him.

I then had a vision of people looking through a list of scriptures that speak of who the Lord says they are. They were searching the list to see if they had a knowing and a heart understanding of each of the scriptures. It was like they were undertaking a self-audit to see if what they believed about themselves aligned with their identity as defined by God. I saw that some people were stopping at some of the scriptures, knowing they hadn’t embraced that truth for themselves, allowed that truth to be lived out in their lives or seen that truth become part of them. I saw them praying that their spiritual eyes would be opened to that truth and that they would believe the full identity the Lord had spoken of them.

I then saw that once these people had truly believed who the Lord said they were in His word, these scriptures poured from their mouth. The word of God was part of them and I saw the scriptures oozing from them. Their very breath spoke the identity the Lord had given them. As they encountered situations in their life their words and position spoke to the situation as they were so secure in their identity of who they were in Christ and all that was available to them in the Kingdom of God. They were secure in their identity as they were secure in their relationship with Jesus.

The scriptures below are some of those I saw people looking over. These scriptures were deposited in them and were part of them. Here are some of the truths the word of God says about you –

  • I am a child of God (Galatians 3:26)

  • I have been adopted into God’s family. I have received the ‘Spirit of Full Acceptance’. (Romans 8:15)

  • I am an intimate friend of Jesus (John 15:15)

  • I am chosen and commissioned by God to go into the world and bear fruit (John 15:16)

The Lord wants to ensure we are strongly grounded as well as heart connected to the knowledge of who He is and who we are in Him. He wants to remind you that you are unique and precious to Him and He so delights in you. He wants you to find your true identity in your relationship and union with Him and allow fruitfulness to flow from you. He wants you to believe and take hold of who He says you are in Him.
