DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE?
In worship I heard the Lord ask the question, “Do you know who you are? …My people don’t know who they really are.” The Lord then went on to say, “You are loved by me. That is who you are.”
There was such a longing and a yearning in the way He asked and such a deep desire for people to know the answer – not just a head knowledge but a heart knowledge of the answer. (Ephesians 3:19 – and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure with all the fullness of God). God’s love for us is the foundation of our being and everything else flows from it. All of our identity is wrapped up in the simple but potent fact that we are loved and adored by God and are called children of God. (1 John 3:1 – See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!..). The Lord’s love for us is limitless and we will never grasp the immeasurability of it. (Psalm 36:5 – Your love Lord reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies). Jesus would have come to earth to die on the cross even if we were the only person to ever walk the planet. The Lord delights in us and our uniqueness. When we have a heart knowledge of the fact we are loved by Jesus, we are encountered by Him and are forever impacted and changed.
I believe the Lord asked this question to highlight His heart’s desire that we may be firmly planted in the knowing that we are loved by Him. We are undone by His love. If we truly know we are loved by God and have experienced that love, it changes the way we view ourselves and others. It gives us our true identity and it brings true freedom. The Lord’s desire is not only for us to know His love but for all people to encounter it. He wants us to be so overwhelmed by His love for us that we can’t but share that love with others so they too may experience the tangible, powerful, life changing love of Jesus.
May we know who we really are. May we be on fire with the passionate love of Christ!
