SITTING AT THE FEET OF JESUS

In Luke 10:38-42 we read that Jesus went to visit the house of Mary and Martha who were sisters. Martha was distracted with much serving while Mary sat at the feet of Jesus and listened to His teaching. Jesus told Martha that Mary had chosen the good place by sitting at his feet.

In worship I had a vision of a child of God sitting at the feet of Jesus, so eager to hear all He had to say and all He wanted to show her. She seemed weary and tired and wished to sit at the feet of Jesus and be refreshed in His presence. An easel with a blank canvas for painting on was placed in front of the person. Jesus was standing in front of the canvas and had such love and kindness in His eyes. He looked right at her and smiled so warmly. He began to paint the canvas and I knew the painting was especially for the one sitting at His feet. The painting had so much colour, beauty, hope and promise. Jesus was painting with many colours and brushes and was turning to her as He was painting, engaging her in the process as He was painting. Jesus was showing her what was to come for her. His face showed excitement as He was so pleased to share with the person and reveal things of Himself, His plans for her and her true destiny. The one at His feet was weeping with joy. She had a realization that Jesus was the master painter and was in control of all things. She saw His deep love for her, delight in her and His desire to commune with her.

Sitting at the feet of Jesus means we rest and wait on the Lord. We surrender all to Him, pursue intimate time with Him and want to be in His presence. We delight in reading His word and learning more of His character and ways. We put all our trust in Him because we know He cares for us. (1 Peter 5:7 – ‘Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you’). Our hope, joy, strength and peace are found in God. We can come to the Lord and He will give us rest (Matthew 11:29). As we sit and rest in the secret place in the presence of God, we are under the Lord’s protection. (Psalm 91:1 – ‘He that dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty’). When we are in the presence of the Lord, we are refreshed and we find fullness of joy.

The Lord desires to reveal hidden things to us and increase our revelation of who He is, our identity in Him and our destiny. (Jeremiah 33:3 – ‘Call to me and I will answer you, and tell you great and hidden things that you have not known’). “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11). Each of us have a plan and a purpose and as we are led by the Spirit and submit all to the Lord, He makes the path ahead of us straight (Proverbs 3:6). The Lord will led us into our true destiny and inheritance in Him.

Take time to sit at the feet of Jesus, as there is no better place to be.
